CLARENCE DARROW'S
Unions and Justice
Starring Gary L. Anderson, America’s renowned Darrow portrayer
Gary Anderson as Clarence Darrow
As a lawyer, Darrow braved the wrath of the entire nation in unforgettable courtroom
dramas that pitted one man against the entrenched forces of the Establishment.

His clients were considered abominable, vilified in the press and hated by the vast
majority of Americans. His private life was considered scandalous. Here is the
passionate story of a man larger than life in his appetites, his ambition, and his genius.
Gary Anderson is the nationally lauded and renowned portrayer of Clarence Darrow, America’s
most famous, infamous, most celebrated and hated lawyer in American history. He is a featured
speaker at union meetings and events. Mr. Anderson’s work is characterized in the same dramatic
league as Hal Holbrook’s Mark Twain in newspapers across the country.

Mr. Anderson is currently scheduling presentations
for upcoming conferences and annual events in 2008 and 2009.
Progam Description

Clarence Darrow's: Unions and Justice is exhilarating, relevant, inspirational, and educational. This is Clarence Darrow at war and
as warrior, returning to engage governments and justice systems in a presentation that trembles with inescapable timeliness.

  • Darrow was the voice of the unions when no other voices dare rise in their defense. He said, “Lost causes are the only ones
    worth fighting for.”

  • Darrow won the landmark victory in Oshkosh Wisconsin in the Thomas Kidd Case that established the legal right for
    unions to strike in America.

  • Darrow was a labor attorney with Samuel Gompers for the AFL for 17 years.

  • Darrow won the first victory for the 8-hour day while he fought against child labor with the great John Mitchell of the United
    Mine Workers.

  • Darrow defended the railroad workers across the nation with Eugene Debs and the American Railway Union and saved
    Debs life.

  • Darrow defended Big Bill Haywood and the Western Federation of Miners for murder and conspiracy and won.

As we continue touring the United States, and shortly, other countries as well, our presentation will continue to educate not only
Union audiences, but the general public as to the benefits of fair and just representation, the history of unions, and their struggles
on behalf of all citizens regardless of race, gender or creed.

We have presented our program,
Clarence Darrow's Unions and Justice at six IBEW Progress Meetings across the country.

Recently we have begun working with the union leadership of the AFL-CIO. In 2008 we presented to Wisconsin. In 2009 we will
be bringing our program to Kentucky as well as a three-city tour in South Carolina.

This is the man behind the legend, not always the hero and not always at his best, with serious legal problems of his own that
scarred and haunted him forever.

This is not a dry lecture but a full dramatic re-creation as Clarence Darrow that becomes history alive. The attendees become the
jury in every case discussed. The show is interactive as Mr. Darrow moves in and out of the audience asking questions which
provokes introspection.
“Trade unions have done more for humanity than any other
organization of men that ever existed. They have done more for
decency, for honesty, for education, for the betterment of the race,
for the developing of character in man, than any other
association of men."
